Council Leader Dan Sutherland has ambitions for Mixenden residents to control their own community centre, citing training provision and Pride in Place funding as potential gap-fillers for the stewardship left behind by North Halifax Partnership when Mixenden Activity Centre is handed back to the council.

Running a community centre takes more than being handed the keys. And Calderdale Council leader Dan Sutherland knows it. He’s been around the third sector block (as a CEO), understands funding foibles, and what it takes to run a charity.  And as ward councillor he believes Mixenden residents should have the opportunity to learn those skills and run their own centre.

His stance, on Calderdale Inside Out’s podcast, was recorded just before North Halifax Partnership’s announcement they will be closing Mixenden Activity Centre on Friday 23rd October, and following the council’s rejection of NHP’s proposed community asset transfer.
