Editorial Standards

Calderdale Inside Out aims to report accurately, fairly and in the public interest.

We believe good local journalism should be clear about what is fact, what is allegation, what is analysis and what is opinion.

Accuracy

We seek to verify significant factual claims before publication and, wherever possible, rely on primary documents, direct evidence and named sources.

If we make a material factual error, we will correct it promptly and transparently.

Right of reply

People and organisations facing significant criticism will normally be given an opportunity to respond before publication, although this may not always be possible in a fast moving news environment. But we will always ensure an organisation is approached for comment and will update articles as and when such a response is made.

Where a response is received, we will represent it fairly and in context.

Sources

We may use confidential or anonymous sources where there is a legitimate public-interest reason to protect their identity.

Where possible, information from confidential sources will be corroborated independently. Calderdale Inside Out will not publish contentious stories from single sources.

Documents and evidence

For major investigations, we aim to inform readers of the evidence behind our reporting — including public records, official documents, correspondence and source material where it is lawful and appropriate to do so.

Analysis and opinion

Where an article contains analysis, interpretation or opinion rather than straightforward factual reporting, we aim to make that clear.

Conflicts of interest

Any relevant financial, personal or professional interest that could reasonably be seen as affecting our reporting will be disclosed.

Corrections and clarifications

Significant corrections and clarifications will be recorded openly.

Independence

Calderdale Inside Out is funded by its subscribers. Editorial decisions are not dictated by political parties, public bodies, advertisers or commercial sponsors.
