Website hosting and Ghost

Calderdale Inside Out uses Ghost to host and operate the publication, manage memberships and send newsletters.

Where Ghost processes personal information on our behalf, it acts as a data processor.

Analytics

We use Ghost’s first-party analytics to understand how people use Calderdale Inside Out and which stories are most useful or engaging. Ghost’s native analytics are designed to operate without conventional tracking cookies. When a member is logged in, Ghost may associate some activity with that member’s account so that we can understand how subscribers engage with our journalism.

If you accept Analytics in our cookie preferences, we also use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and understand how readers use the website. Information sent to Google can include the pages you visit, referring links, browser and device information, approximate location and cookie identifiers.

Cookies

Essential cookies or similar technologies may be used for functions such as signing in, managing memberships, operating the website and remembering your cookie choices. Ghost’s native analytics do not rely on conventional tracking cookies.

Our cookie banner gives you separate choices for:

Analytics: Google Analytics 4, which helps us understand website use.
Marketing: Meta Pixel, which helps us measure visits associated with our advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

These optional tools are off until you consent to the relevant category. You can accept all, reject non-essential cookies or choose categories individually. Your choice does not prevent you from reading the website or signing up.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie icon on our website. Withdrawing consent stops the relevant tool from loading on subsequent page loads; the page reloads when needed to apply the change. It does not erase information already sent to Google or Meta. You can also delete existing cookies through your browser settings.

Calderdale Inside Out uses social media, including Facebook, to share our journalism and communicate with readers. If you interact with us through a social platform, that platform processes information under its own privacy policy.

If you accept Marketing in our cookie preferences, our website loads Meta Pixel to help us understand visits associated with our Facebook and Instagram advertising. It sends Meta information about page views, such as the page address, together with browser information, your IP address and cookie identifiers. Meta may associate this information with information it already holds about you and use it under the Meta Privacy Policy, including for advertising.

Our current Pixel setup records page views. We do not configure the Pixel to send subscriber names or email addresses to Meta.

Meta Pixel loads only after you give Marketing consent. You can withdraw that consent using the cookie icon on our website.

People who contact us

If you contact us, send us information or provide material relating to a story, we may retain your correspondence where it is reasonably necessary for:

responding to you
carrying out journalism
maintaining an accurate editorial record
handling complaints or corrections
establishing, exercising or defending legal claims

Journalistic material may sometimes be subject to specific legal protections or exemptions under data-protection law.

Our lawful basis for using information

Depending on the circumstances, we process personal information because:
