Public life works better when people can see how decisions are made, where money goes and who is accountable for what, and that is why Calderdale Inside Out exists.

Founded in 2025 by journalist Nick Meir as an occasional investigative podcast, CIO is now expanding into providing in-depth coverage of news and current affairs impacting everyday life in Calderdale.

Over the course of his career in TV and radio Nick's investigations appeared on high profile programmes across the BBC network including: BBC Breakfast, Today, Inside Out, The Politics Show, Whistleblower, Watchdog, You & Yours, Face the Facts, Rogue Traders, and BBC News online. Nick firmly falls into the definition of "local lad" and grew up in Boothtown and King Cross before embarking on a career that's seen him produce work all over the world. Moving back to Calderdale five years ago he decided to rekindle his passion for local journalism after seeing just how bare local newsrooms had become.

The Calderdale Inside Out funding model is based around ability to pay. Initially on sponsorship, founding members and "buy us a coffee basis". You won't find any intrusive pop-up advertising or click-chasing, giving us freedom to focus on the stories that matter, not just traffic generators.

A lot of our work is investigative and in-depth, but not everything has to be heavy. We also want to tell the stories of the people, places and communities that make Calderdale a distinctive place to live.

Calderdale Inside Out is an independent local news publication covering Calderdale. It is published by Boot Strap Media Ltd and edited by Nick Meir.
